At Liability Brewing Co. in Greenville, South Carolina, brewing beer is more than just fermentation and carbonation—it’s about purpose, precision, and people. Since opening their doors, the team at Liability has grown into one of the region’s most respected craft breweries, producing award-winning beers like Feral Garden Gnome (Gold at the 2025 World Beer Cup) and maintaining one of the most intentional brewing philosophies in the industry.
Recently re-certified as a Certified B Corporation, Liability is the only brewery in South Carolina—and one of just 18 in the U.S.—to hold this designation. Their B Corp values, including environmental stewardship, transparency, and social impact, shine through in everything they do—from the ingredients they source to the partnerships they choose.
Staying True to Their Values
Liability Brewing’s ethos centers on quality, sustainability, and service. They avoid animal products, artificial flavors, and shortcuts in favor of producing clean, gluten-reduced beers with character and integrity. Their customers don’t just enjoy great beer—they support a brewery that stands for something biggerwing also has a core lineup of beers to complement their course-specific brews, which are also available for customers to purchase at their headquarters.
The Search for the Right Equipment Partner
Liability’s journey with Middleby Brewing & Distilling Solutions began with Deutsche Beverage + Process. Drawn to Deutsche’s reputation for quality and reliability—as well as their customer service—the brewery chose Deutsche to build out its main 10-barrel production system. The relationship only grew from there.
“Deutsche’s quality and service were huge for us,” said co-founder Kathy Horner. “And clearly, we liked the stuff—we kept buying it.”
From there, the team added a first-generation Wild Goose Gosling canning system, and the quality was undeniable. They quickly upgraded to a Wild Goose Evolution Series, consistently running 16 oz cans at 18–26 cans per minute on only two heads with minimal waste and exceptional efficiency. The performance—and the overwhelmingly positive reviews from other brewers—made Wild Goose a clear choice.
Most recently, Liability added a pilot system from Ss Brewtech, including a 1-barrel unitank, 1-barrel brite tank, and chiller. While they don’t yet have a full mash system on the pilot side, they use it to produce wort-based brews, match fermentation profiles, and expand their taproom variety.
“The fermentation consistency and control are spot-on,” said Jared, Head Brewer. “We’re able to do more taproom-exclusive batches and play creatively without committing to a full 10-barrel brew of something wild.”
One Unified Solution
With equipment from Deutsche, Wild Goose, and Ss Brewtech, Liability Brewing is a prime example of how the new Middleby Brewing & Distilling Solutions Group benefits craft producers.
“When we had a canning issue, I called our Deutsche rep, and within minutes, I had a direct line to someone who could help. That kind of cross-brand service is incredible.”
Now, instead of working with three separate teams, customers like Liability have one point of contact—a seamless, integrated experience that makes it easier to scale, troubleshoot, and innovate across their entire operation.
“It just makes sense,” said Kathy. “If we’ve had a great experience with a brand, why would we go anywhere else? Deutsche, Wild Goose, and Ss Brewtech treat us well, make quality products, and work together.”
What’s Next for Liability Brewing?
In addition to celebrating seven years in business this July, Liability Brewing is riding high on their World Beer Cup win for Feral Garden Gnome and renewed B Corp certification. They’re planning more one-barrel experimental batches for their taproom, building on a foundation of consistent production and inspired innovation.
As they continue to grow, their focus remains clear: brew great beer, stay true to their values, and partner with people who do the same.
